In-running Lays: Back-to-lay Palenville and Tree Of Liberty

Simon Crisford

Above: Simon Crisford trains the consistent Palenville that tries Tapeta for the first time at Wolverhampton.

1.00 Doncaster: Tree Of Liberty hasn’t finished out of the first three in all his four stars to date and with the booking of Richard Johnson he catches the eye. Though he’s yet to win, having finished second three times he has come up against a few decent horses.

In his final point start at Lisronagh he pushed Spiritofthegames (rated 125) all the way, going down by just a length after travelling well to challenge at the final fence. Spiritofthegames went on to join Dan Skelton, winning his first start at Ayr before finishing fourth to Peregrine Run in a grade 2 at Cheltenham and last time finished second in a class 3 at Kempton. Last time out he finished second to 5-time winner Another Bill (rated 126) in a Class 4 novice hurdle at Bangor. Tree Of Liberty shouldn’t be too far away from the leaders (led last time) and could well end up setting the pace here; he currently trades around 5.0 for a back-to-lay.

5.05 Wolverhampton: Palenville has traded below at least half his BSP in all 7 races to date and looks to have a great chance of doing so again here. This will be his first try on tapeta but seems adaptable regarding surface with good turf and all-weather performances. This race looks to have a lot of pace on with Arize sure to try and make all. Palenville has front-run in the past but will most likely sit in behind the pace and should get a decent position near the rail from his draw in 2; he currently trades around 4.2 for a back-to-lay.
