Mille Et Mille Could Go Close at 40/1 in the Gold Cup

Mille Et Mille

4.20 Ascot: Order of St George is a heavy favourite for this year’s Gold Cup. On form he is the class in the race but has never raced any further than 1 mile 6 furlongs and this 2 miles 4 furlongs on soft ground is going to be different challenge.

One horse for which the extreme distance will be no problem is last year’s Prix Du Cadran winner Mille Et Mille. Many would have seen his surprise win in the race as a fluke as he got his own way up-front and increased the pace from a long way out with very little else getting in to the race. Prior to that win he had carried a group penalty around in some of France’s top staying races but the step up in distance to 2 miles 4 furlongs really suited. Mille Et Mille enjoyed a seasonal reappearance in the Prix De Barbeville where he was given tender ride in the pack as opposed to his usual front-running tactics.

He could well get his own way upfront in this year’s Gold Cup and as a really strong stayer he could run well for a long way and has the class to go close at a big price. While it’s hard to know how he will run away from France he does look worth chancing at big odds to trade low; he currently trades around 55.0 for a back-to-lay and looks worth chancing to go close in the win and place markets at 40/1.
