In-Running Lays: Back-to-lay Ripoll and Calin Du Brizais

Nigel Hawke

Above: Nigel Hawke trains Calin Du Brizais who runs at Market Rasen today.

12.10 Lingfield: Ripoll is in great form and looks a well handicapped horse whose connections are quickly trying to get the most out of quickly with this being his fourth run in 16 days. He races with a penalty, the same as his last run where he was just beaten a short head at Wolverhampton to be was collared in the final strides having traded down to 1.13 in-running. He is a front runner who has drawn high in stall 10 of 12 but with the 1 mile start just after the turn there is 3 furlong straight for him to get in to his stride and get to front for a ground saving trip on the inside and avoid going wide. Wide draws haven’t stopped him in his last two races where he was drawn 6 of 6 to be beaten a head and prior to that winning from stall 14 of 14 runners. He has traded below at least half his BSP in all 6 races to date and with Ryan Powell taking off 3lb he looks a decent back-to-lay; he currently trades around 5.60.

2.40 Market Rasen: Calin Du Brizais ran well on what was seasonal and handicap debut 22 days ago to trade down to 1.49 in-running from a BSP of 11.0. He has traded below at least half his BSP in 5 of his 6 races with the only time being here at Market Rasen when meeting a good horse in Oliver Sherwood’s Royalraise who made all with nothing else in the race able to trouble the favourite. In this class 4 handicap he should be competitive and be able to race up with the leaders to trade low in-running; he currently trades around 6.20 for a back-to-lay.
