In-Running Lays: Back-to-lay Johns Spirit and Kayf Blanco

Johns Spirit

Above: Johns Spirit finished second in the Paddy Power Gold Cup Chase last year and should go close again.

2.25 Cheltenham: Johns Spirit has an outstanding record at Cheltenham with all his wins over the last two years coming here at this track. He has run here at Cheltenham a total of 9 times with 3 wins and in the others he traded to at least half his BSP in all but one; over two years back when badly blundering to ruin his chances. Though he has to carry 11-10 and there’s likely to be some up and coming improvers he does run so well here having only being beaten a head by well-weighted Caid Du Berlais in this race last year when just caught in the final strides having traded as low as 1.15 in-running. After a prep race 3 weeks ago he’s carrying just a pound more this time and has a great chance again of trading low; he currently trades around 15.50 but could trade a lot bigger due to his hold up style of running.

3.15 Wetherby: Kayf Blanco’s consistency has done him no favours with the handicapper despite not winning in his last 5 races he has been penalised a total 12lb for his good performances. A good third place finish 15 day’s over todays course and distance on his seasonal reappearance will put him spot-on for another good run again. He has an outstanding in-running trading history having traded below at least half his BSP in-running in 12 of his 13 races and below 20% in 10 of those. He is held up in his races and can sometimes trade quite a bit bigger in-running than his BSP so you can top up you back bets in-running to lay-off shorter as he usually makes headway late-on; he currently trades around 9.40 for a back-to-lay.
