2016 Prix Jacques Le Marois Preview

This year’s Prix Jacques Le Marois sees the UK bookies put the two British 3-year-olds, Galileo Gold and Ribchester at the top of the market at 2/1 and 5/2. While they do look fairly solid there are several further down the betting that appeal more at bigger prices.

Andre Fabre has always thought a lot about Vadamos, having compared him to Manduro who he considers the best he has trained. While he has failed to live up to that reputation on the whole, he has begun to live up to those expectations this year.

After several disappointing efforts racing abroad he has decided to keep him racing locally in France. He has also dropped back in distance to one mile which has seen him register two impressive group three wins. With much of Northern France affected by an equine virus Vadamos has still run well based in Chantilly, while Pau based Rouget has been cleaning up major races in France.

Vadamos, currently available at 7/1 looks a great bet against the first two in the market. He races up with pace and with Frankie Dettori likely to make it on Galileo Gold he shouldn’t be too far away to challenge; having shown a great turn of foot to win his recent races over a mile.

Of the others, at big prices both last year’s winner Esoterique at 16/1 and Dicton at 25/1 appeal and Ervedya at 8/1 could return back to form for Rouget. The top class Esoterique has not shown a lot this season but her last race did show promise. After nearly ending up on the floor when stumbling out of the stalls she recovered and finished fourth to Qemah in the Prix Rothschild, which was her best effort of the season.

Dicton finished third in the Poule D’Essai Des Poulains over course and distance. While he was never going to beat The Gurkha who turned in a massive performance, he should have finished second. He was given far too much to do being held up out the back and then met trouble in-running before finishing fast to take third place.

Dicton also finished third in the Prix Du Jockey Club to Almanzor over 10.5 furlongs, which may have stretched him, as he previously beat that foe in the Prix De Fontainbleau over a mile. This drop down to one mile should suit and he looks a great eachway bet at 25/1 with many bookmakers offering ¼ the odds for the place.
